Dear all,

I have updated the Hotels page with a few more details on Hotel Tammer’s quota. I also added a new page Itinerary to give you an impression of what we have in store for you!

By way of a more general update, we are finalising menus with the hotel, have booked a meeting with the lovely judge who is going to perform the ceremony, and are looking for the right person to provide music at the ceremony. (But we’re not telling what kind of musician, as it will be a surprise!)

Dear blog readers,

James and I stayed one night at Omena Hotel Lönnrotinkatu in Helsinki a few weeks ago. I think they are roughly the same no matter which hotel you stay at, so I thought it would be beneficial to share our experience.

First of all, Omena Hotels are not your run of the mill hotels: you do the reservation online, they send you a confirmation with your room number and door code – and that’s all you need! There are no reception desks, and actually no staff present at the hotels (other than the security guards). If you need anything, you contact the central “reception desk” via the television in your room.

The rooms are basic but comfortable, with sleeping facilities for up to four – but they are on the small side. Standard amenities include microwave, small fridge and a kettle (some instant coffee, tea and creamer are provided). However, there is no space to fold your clothes away, so take a suitcase that you would be happy to leave your clothes in for a while. (There are some hooks that you can hang your glad rags on though..)

One other thing note is that the room will be cleaned every five days during one stay. But, it still represents good value for money at approx. 60 EUR a night. Below are some pictures to demonstrate the room – if you have any more questions, please just ask!
